Green refrigerant compatible B: Contribution to decarbonization of customers' products Power relays
(IEC/EN 60079-15 compliant products)G5NB, G2RL, G5Q, G5PZ

DMS contributes to ensuring the safety of
air-conditioning equipment that uses
"green refrigerants", which are
expected to become more

widespread in
the future.

G5NB

Some refrigerants have a global warming potential (GWP) of more than 1000.
The global warming potential of CO2 is 1, which means that common refrigerants have a greater impact on global warming than CO2.

In recent years, there has been a growing focus on "green refrigerants *1" which exhibit less global warming effects.
However, many green refrigerants are flammable substances and can cause ignition hazards. Therefore, in order to use green refrigerants, it is necessary to make the related equipment explosion-proof.
In order to make equipment explosion-proof, it is common practice to enclose elements that can become ignition sources with metal casings, etc. to prevent the spread of fire. However, this can result in a relatively expensive product.

Relays are among the components in equipment that can cause ignition, and general relays can be a source of ignition due to arc discharge when the contact opens and closes. For example, in the case of air conditioning equipment that uses refrigerants, the use of explosion-proof standard-compliant relays *2 contributes to making the entire equipment explosion-proof while ensuring safety. Consequently, more people will be able to use air conditioning equipment that uses green refrigerants, thereby contributing more to the reduction of global warming.

If you are interested in OMRON's explosion-proof certified relays, please refer to the related products below.

*1 Green refrigerants refer to chlorofluorocarbon-free refrigerants such as natural refrigerants and low GWP chlorofluorocarbons.
*2 Relays that conform to explosion-proof standards have been confirmed not to ignite when tested under explosion-proof standards IEC/EN 60079-15.

[The value DMS provides]

  • Conforming to IEC/EN 60079-15:Explosive atmospheres - Part 15. Can be used to ensure the safety of air conditioning equipment such as air-conditioners and heat pumps.

(IEC/EN) 60079-15 compliant products

The compliant relays have been tested to meet the standard of (IEC/EN) 60079-15: Explosive atmospheres – Part 15 and confirmed to be nonflammable. Therefore, such relays are not considered an ignition source because they meet the standard for air-conditioners and heat pumps, IEC 60335-2-40.
