Various types of products such as home appliances require various safety designs to prevent malfunctions or erroneous operations that lead to accidents. OMRON offers a variety of devices that support design philosophies such as fail-safe (a function that allows equipment to work in a safe manner even if abnormalities, malfunctions, or erroneous operations occur due to a failure) and interlock (a function that prevents the creation of a dangerous situation by making it impossible to move on to the next step unless a certain step is taken).
OMRON helps develop devices that can be used safely and securely through electronic components.
We propose various devices that enable products to be in a safe and secure state.
Two design philosophies to prepare for safety and security
Fail Safe
This allows equipment to work in a safe manner even if abnormalities, malfunctions, or erroneous operations occur due to a failure.
Example: Fan heater
If the heater falls down, it automatically stops operation.
It stops operation if it detects shaking or falling
due to earthquakes, etc.
Example: Alarm device
If the wire becomes disconnected (accidents become undetectable), an alarm will sound automatically.
It avoids danger even if a power outage or
disconnection occurs.

Example: Grinder
Operation stops when the hand is removed from the grinder.
(Operation becomes possible when the safe position is gripped by hand)
It controls devices by using actions such as
gripping or touching as a trigger.
