What are the typical applications of built-in type Photomicrosensors (photointerrupters)?
The built-in type Photomicrosensors(photointerrupters) are commonly used for object presence and absence detection, disk rotation counting, positioning of moving objects and rotating direction detection (for encoder use).
Here are some examples of typical applications using each of the two types of Photomicrosensors: transmissive (slot) type and reflective type.
Photomicrosensors (with a phototransistor output) detect the presence and absence of an object by the proportion of the amount of light received (i.e. signal/noise ratio). So, if a transmissive (slot type) Photomicrosensors senses a semi-transparent object or a reflective Photomicrosensors detects marked objects, the proportion of the amount of light received will result in a lower value.
A Photomicrosensors is composed of semiconductor elements so the light output and light intensity varies. This is referred to as the light current (IL) for Photomicrosensors with a phototransistor output. The circuit should be configured in such a way that the selected Photomicrosensors detects both the upper and the lower limit of the light current described in the datasheet.
