About viewing angle

  1. Can the field of view (FOV) angle be increased?

    No. OMRON set the FOV in consideration of the constraints imposed by the thickness and refractive index of the silicon lens. Measurement distance is reduced as the FOV of one element increases. Therefore, we can not simply widen the viewing angle. A good way to measure a wide range, is to install multiple sensors, or mount the sensor on a movable/rotating base.


  1. Are there any effects on an infrared remote controller?

    No. The silicon lens we are using will not pass through most near-infrared and visible light below 1.2 [μm] wavelength. Therefore, it dose not affect the infrared signal of the remote controller. The far infrared rays that are emitted as radiant heat are about 4 to 14[μm].

About person's distinction

  1. Is it possible to distinguish between humans, animales, and appliances?

    No. In the non-contact temperature module, you can only acquire surface temperature measurement data. Different objects of the same temperature will read the same. Further discrimination must be based on the behavior of the measured data to distinguish the object by software on the user side. By developing software designed with your specific application in mind, the determination accuracy may possibly be improved.

About distance

  1. What is the distance range that can detect the presence of people?

    This is grearly affected by the decision performance and software installation conditions. It is also affected by size of the object to be measured and the area of the FOV per element. A rough guideline distance is about 5 to 6 meters.

About power consumption

  1. Can the power consunmption be reduced?

    No. The D6T thermal sensor dose not have a power saving mode. Therefore, in order to reduce power consumption it is necessary to shut off the power.

About power supply voltage and slave address

  1. Is there a sensor that can operate on a supply voltage of 3[V]? Is there an I2C slave address that I can change?

    No. The D6T thermal sensor dose not support them.

  1. What's the difference between OMRON's Photo Micro sensors and photo interrupters which are used generally?

    Actually, it's the same thing with no difference but it's named as "Photo Micro Sensors" in 1976 the beginning of development and we're loving to use it until today.

  1. What's the difference between Phototraisistor type and Photo-IC one?

    Phototransistor type has a "Transistor output circuit"and Photo-IC one has a "Comparetor circuit"in its inner circuit.

  2. How can we read the lot code?

    In the case of 3 digits
    - First digit: Produced date
    - 2nd digit: Produced month
    - 3rd digit: The last number of produced year

    In the case of 4 digits
    - First digit: Produced date
    - 2nd digit: Produced month
    - 3rd digit: The last number of produced year
    - 4th digit: Produced place code

About designing

  1. How can we design the driving circuit for LED?

    Please limit LED by resistance and use within the temperature rating chart. To get more details, please check catalog's technical description (P.10).

  2. How can we design the light-receiving element driving circuit?

    Photo-transistor, photo IC type to both convert voltage current resistance, please drive by high and low voltage circuit of the second sentence. To get more details, please check catalog's technical description (P.10).

  3. What a kind of materials should we use for shading objects?

    When measuring the light interception properties of the light interceptor, use 0.1% maximum light transmission as a guideline.

  4. How's the conditions for soldering (reflow-soldering, reflow, flow)?

    If not specified, soldering should be performed with hand soldering at 350 degrees for 3 seconds and flow at 260 degrees for 10 seconds (both of which are terminal temperatures). Please handle it by priority in case of the specified specification. For SMD, please refer to catalog or soldering condition of specification.


  1. Are your photomicrosensors completely supported by RoHS standard?

    All of our Photomicrosensors are supported by RoHS standard so you can use without any problems.

  1. What is TOF?

    TOF stands for "Time of flight",
    it uses the flight time of light to measure distances to objects.
    As well as being able to turn captured images into 3D images, it can also measure at a speed of 20 frames per second,
    allowing it to track the movement of objects three-dimensionally.

  2. What are the differences between TOF and Lidar?

    Lidar is also a way to measure distance with light, but it measures the distance of only one point and scasns it to create a 3D image.
    Therefore, a mechanical mechanism is necessary and it becomes expensive.
    In addition, troubles are likely to occur and maintenance is necessary.

    On the other hand, this TOF sensor can acquire a wide range image in real time.
    There is no mechanical mechanism and maintenance is unnecessary.

  3. Can it be provided in component products?

    Only for embedded use.

  4. Is it possible to provide SDK?

    We provide SDK such as evaluation software.

  1. Will it work on Linux?

    It is confirmed that it be connected on Linux(Ubuntu18) and that various commands can be executed.

  2. What is the product temperature?

    The outside air temperature will be around +20C.
    It also depends on the product design.

  3. Should I put a cover on the front of the product?

    Attach the NIR transmission filter as a cover.
    Do not cover the transmitter and receiver with a single cover, but optically separate them.

  4. Is the light source bad for your eyes?

    This product uses LEDs instead of lasers.
    It is an exempt group of IEC-62471-1.

  5. Is it possible to install a judgment algorithm?

    Omron doesn't porive it.


  1. What are your plans to acquire safety standards?

    There is no support for safety standards.

  2. Are there any measures against dust and water?

    No plans to release dustproof or waterproof.
